Response to Mytheos, on weapons and fire

Dear Mytheos,

Unlike fire, weapons (and by this I don’t mean hunting rifles, I mean Raytheon’s kind of prime ass-kicking weapons) are designed and constructed with a single purpose in mind—to kill other humans.

I’ll admit, one could argue that there are times when ending one life could save more. In this case, the benefit might outweigh the costs. But there are still costs. Unless you can show me an ICBM that can cook hotdogs for a starving family, keep someone warm in otherwise fatal weather or purify bacteria-infested water without the cost of taking anyone’s life, I fail to see how weapons are just as socially responsible as fire.

Seriously, fire is awesome.

Love,

Peter Hull, Fire Enthusiast
