Ready for Rocktober

In last spring’s April 6th issue of the Argus, I submitted the following Wespeak:

“A half-year from now, I’ll refer to this Wespeak when the Rockies make the playoffs and say, ‘I told you so.’”

If you look back in the Argus archives, you’ll notice that that was the third time I’d written that Wespeak, once each in my Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior years. After twelve years of frustration and last-place finishes, the Rockies won their 14th game out of their last 15 last night to win the National League Wild-Card and make the playoffs, beating the Padres 9-8 in 13 innings. I have been a Rockies fan since their first year (since I was seven), cheering them on in Colorado, where people like football, and in Connecticut, where people don’t know where Colorado is. I’ve cried, worried, and been frustrated (but mostly just cried) over the last fifteen years while they languished in last place. Last night, at 12:33 a.m., they finally won. I cried again, but this time, I cried tears of joy.

I told you so.
