Response to John Chisholm

To those who feel as Mr. John Chisholm does:

As a disclaimer, this Wespeak is entirely my own opinion, independent of the WSA and without the approval or knowledge of our Assembly.

I find it somewhat deplorable and embarrassing (as a current Wesleyan student) that you so easily cast judgment on affairs of which you have shown no interest in involving yourself in. The WSA has spent many hours in the past weeks over SEWI’s proposal to divest in a few weapons contractors.

At least the students in SEWI bothered to come to a WSA meeting and have a discussion about our investments. What have you done except whine ineffectually? I was one of the few that voted ultimately against the SEWI resolution to divest (so much for the influence of conservative sycophants) in our last meeting, but at least those students had the gumption to come and actually argue their case.

This is the thing with Wesleyan students: you (perhaps we) all complain so much, yet do little to actually change things. The SEWI students did that much at least. They succeeded in getting their resolution passed and even though I disagree with it, they attempted change. What are you doing besides standing on a soapbox?

So, the WSA was “naïve”? I think not. It’s naive to attempt to effect change without taking action. Had you come to the meeting and made your arguments supporting divestment…that would have been admirable. Now, after the fact, you’re just useless. If you can’t see this…what the fuck are you doing going to school here, John? When I chose to come here, Wesleyan was more than just a bunch of whiny assholes…they actually acted. Not just complained incessantly.

Oh. One more thing: get a haircut. It might buy you more weight with the conservative sycophants.
