Mr. Carp, as a woman of Muslim and Arab descent, I thought I’d write just to clear up a few misconceptions you appear to have about Islam. I am glad you included cold hard facts (“many, many, MANY”) in your piece last Friday, but I think my personal experience may offer valuable insight.
While the “mythology” that I have been brought up to believe for my whole life certainly did include precepts on “bloodily rioting,” I wouldn’t go so far as to describe us as “barbaric savages.” Rather, the training I received from my towel–headed father as he raised me to be a human explosive was extensive. See, you can’t just use duct tape to strap the device on, and you have to be careful about just where on your torso you place it (you don’t want to jostle something like that around too much!). I would hardly call that barbarism. Compared to the Jews though, I guess we are, by and large, “primitive savages.” Oh, and my fair-haired friends are more mild–mannered than your dark–haired author—an excellent observation sir.
We should also certainly look down upon a nation that uses stoning as a means of punishment without considering our own legal system, which is perfect and would never execute someone ever. Plus our electric chair is really a fantastic way to die. And since America is clearly the greatest nation on earth, it is fair to expect other countries to adhere to our law, and honor the rights given to Americans such as free speech.
I did take issue with your question, “Have we not seen violence from this part of the world before?” Were you referring to Muslims as “a part of the world,” or were you referring to the violence that erupted throughout the whole world this past month, though largely in Europe? Clearly there is no history of mass murder in largely Christian Europe, except at the hand of all those pesky Muslims.
I applaud, however, your linking of the “many, many, MANY” Muslims as it is clear that I did order the September 11th attacks, I am the Ayatollah Khomeini, and I do currently have a Western hostage awaiting death in my basement. No virgins in heaven for him. I also applaud your use of capitalization; it really ENHANCED your argument. And I won’t even touch the Israel-Palestine issue, since clearly Palestinian children with rocks have been doing MOST (I dare not say ALL) of the killing.
When you are able to write a coherent and persuasive Wespeak that is not laced with bigotry and broad generalizations then I will drop the passive aggressive sarcasm and consider your argument, which is still unclear to me since you simply used it as a minor vehicle for your thinly veiled hate speech.
