What’s the deal with the comics page I read every week in the Argus? Is there something I’m not getting? Because not only are they not funny, they don’t even make sense. Growing up having read the Newsday funny pages, as well as being a huge Calvin and Hobbes fan, I have to say that the Argus’ comics are some of the stupidest shit I have ever seen. Maybe I’m just too simple-minded to understand them, but being a guy who’s never made a single comic strip in his life, I am fairly certain that I could make something better than that in five minutes while tripping on rat poison, with my eyes closed, and the marker being held between my two little toes on my left foot (and I’m a righty). I keep reading these pages in the hopes that one week, I will understand or—dare I say it—enjoy a comic on this page. I leave you, the comics editors, a choice: make something worthwhile or force me into a rat poison binge, holed up in my dorm room making comics in the dark for three days straight.
Quite possibly the only person who reads that page,
Jake Gold
