Women’s hockey hopes to shake past season

The 2005-06 women’s ice hockey team is looking forward to a solid season this upcoming winter.

After finishing last year at 3-19-1, the team is eager to get the season started and forget about last year. The women look exceptionally strong and have high hopes for this year.

“This is the best the team has looked during preseason while I’ve been here,” Molly Adams ’07 said. “I think we’re going to have a good season and good opening weekend.” Although Meghan Frederico ’05 and Anna Siciliano ’05, two of last year’s leading scorers have graduated, the ladies still have Jessica Fischer ’08 and Amanda Nickels ’08 to power the offense.

“We are very excited for this season because we have a lot of fresh talent and strong returning players,” said Captain Jessica Pearce ’06. “We also have confidence in our goal tending. We should definitely be a strong opponent this season against the other NESCAC teams. Plus, we have awesome leadership. I mean, literally, awesome.”

Hopefully, the sting of last season’s final defeat against Colby College will ignite the ladies towards a first win this weekend against Trinity College, a NESCAC rival. Last season’s game against Trinity was a close 5-4 win for Trinity. With a little bit of luck and a lot of persistence, the Cardinals will fight to the end as payback for last year’s game. The opening weekend games are on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 18 and 19, home at the Spurrier-Snyder Rink in the Freeman Athletic Center.
