After leading the women’s soccer team in scoring this season, word on the street is that Marissa Trevisan ’09 has been dubbed “the future of women’s soccer.” Today, Trevisan sits down to talk about the team’s battle at Middlebury this past weekend, team camaraderie, and the joys of being a freshman.
MIKE BRADY: So Marissa, can you talk about this game last weekend at Middlebury?
MARISSA TREVISAN: The Middlebury game was definitely a stepping-stone for the team. We all played pretty well, and we probably could’ve won that game.
MB: So what are the team goals for the rest of the season?
MT: The biggest goal is probably to make the NESCAC tournament. We have some great senior leadership and plenty of young players too. The team has really been improving over the past couple of years, and Eva is a real great coach. In fact, we have twelve freshmen on the team, or the “Dirty Dozen” as we’re called.
MB: “Dirty Dozen?” Do you guys have any other crazy nicknames on your team, like say a “Mad Dog” or a “Saturday Night?”
MT: Well maybe not those, but we’ve still got cool ones. Mine is “Side-pony-cover-up girl,” because I always wear my ponytail to the side and other stuff.
MB: Interesting. So it seems the teams bonds pretty well.
MT: Definitely. We get together every week before our Saturday games for a pasta dinner. The upperclassmen cook and we all bring different things. We have twenty-eight girls on the team and we’re incredibly close.
MB: Excellent. So how is freshman year treating you?
MT: It’s pretty busy, with soccer and class. I’m also going to try volunteering at the Green Street Arts Center. But all in all, it’s been awesome.
MB: So will you be playing any other sports here at Wesleyan?
MT: In high school in Brookline, Massachusetts I played soccer, lacrosse and ice hockey. I may play lacrosse here, but I’m not sure yet. But right now I’m just adjusting to college life.
MB: Do you have any other thoughts on the rest of the season?
MT: (Flexing) The NESCAC can tri, but they know they’ll never get bi our guns.
