I think the stereotypes and misconceptions portrayed in Alex Gelman’s 9/27 Ampersand article are offensive in the extreme. First of all, the idea that Snoop Dogg is or was a member of NWA is erroneous. His understanding of regional slang is off-base as well. I challenge him to comb through any NWA records for mentions of the word “ridonkulous.” And the use of “dirty” in the noun form never made it past Missouri state lines. The function of the limp/lean is misunderstood as well. It is outrageous that Gelman would parody urban culture without putting in the effort to make fun of it properly.
