The Wesleyan golf team finished 20th of 24 teams this weekend at the Duke Nelson Invitational at Middlebury. Williams, always a power in the NESCAC golf league, won the tournament and the Ephs’ Matt Slovitt took home individual honors with a 143 two-day score.
Leading the way for the Cardinals was Dave Velardo ’08. Velardo, fresh off the first sub-70 round by a Wesleyan golfer in thirty years, posted a 155 two-day total, shooting 77 on Saturday and 78 on Sunday. Eli Wilson ’09, who paced the Cardinals last week as the team’s top finisher, was second for Wesleyan with a pair of 83s. Co-captains Hal Tift ’07 and Jeff Sillin ’07 followed in third and fourth place, respectively, and John Torrenti ’09 rounded out the team’s efforts.
This coming weekend, the golf squad heads to Williamstown, MA to play at the Williams College Invitational.
