Confess to damaging the trees in my yard

Late last Thursday night (early Friday morning) two young trees in front of our house were badly damaged by passers by. Judging by the noise outside, this act of vandalism was the work of drunken partygoers walking along High Street. This is not an isolated incident. In the past two weeks, on two separate occasions, a young tree in front of our neighbors house has also been vandalized.

If you know who committed any of these savage acts, we ask that you urge that person to come forward and apologize. Alternatively, if you are the perpetrator and feel a sense of shame or guilt but wish to remain anonymous, then please consider making a donation to Middletown’s Urban Forestry Commission for tree plantings in the downtown neighborhood between High and Broad Street. According to the Commission, the cost of planting a single tree is between $250 and $300, depending on the type of tree.
