Librizzi leads football comeback

Football shook off a fast start by Bowdoin (1-5) Saturday, scoring the winning touchdown with less than three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to edge the Polar Bears 25-21. Blake Curry ’07 grabbed the game-winning seven-yard pass from freshman quarterback Zach Librizzi, his fourth touchdown toss of the day. The win evened the Cardinals’ record at 3-3. After Librizzi led the team on a 67-yard drive for the final score, Matt Barnum ’06 intercepted a Bowdoin pass to seal the Polar Bears’ fate. Librizzi, starting for the first time at Wes, completed 24 of 41 pass attempts for over 300 yards to go with his four touchdown passes, earning him NESCAC player of the week honors. Sam Fletcher ’04 led the receiving corps with nine catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns, while tight end James Wallace ’05 racked up 66 yards on six catches with one score. Phil Banks ’07 carried the ball 16 times for 87 yards to hold down the ground attack, as Wes defeated Bowdoin for the eighth straight time. Football travels to Williams (5-1) on Saturday for its final Little Three show down.
