A Poetic Response to the “PR War”

Mr. Nestler, supposedly 1,314 Palestinians have been killed by the state of Israel

You would have the world call these people “Arabs:”

Supposedly 1,314 Arabs have been killed by the state of Israel in Palestine

Is this more suitable?

When we are children we see something like this

And we think–this is unfair, this is senseless killing.

Only as we grow older do we cultivate more nuanced views

And are able to look at Israel’s actions as anything

Other than those of a bully–

a bully supplied by America with one of the world’s finest militaries

When you use words like “parasite” to describe Israel’s enemy

And say Hamas and Hezbollah “must be exterminated”

Your words sound awfully familiar…

And the resemblance to the worst of Israel’s current enemies discredits you.

Killing has been the consequence of sentiments like yours

And I continue to wait for the explanation of why Israel’s actions are justified

And why Palestinians cannot pursue their lives without ever more barriers.

Until then I remain firmly on the Palestinians’ side

in the “Public Relations War” you speciously make equivalent to real, life-ending war.
