Keep talking about Fountain

As some of you may or may not know, the narrative on the Fountain Avenue incident of last year is set to be released sometime this coming week. Those of you present at the forum in Usdan immediately following the disturbance may remember a very rational and clear dialogue among students concerning the progression of steps to be taken. Then Obama dropped by and we went home.

What happened last year cannot just disappear into the summer, nor can it be treated with any less respect than it was in the campus center that fittingly rainy day last May. When the report is issued, I trust that neither Wesleyan students nor the Middletown Police Department (MPD) will be fully vindicated. However, it is OUR unenviable position to strike up a chord and initiate the dialogue. MPD will want this to go away, as will some of us, but we have an obligation to resolve many of the glaring issues made shockingly public that night.

Wesleyan, take a deep breath and let’s approach the impending report with the calmness and rationality that we are all more than capable of employing.
