A message from your frosh reps

Dear Class of ’09,

Many of you will remember that at some point earlier this year you elected your frosh representatives to the WSA. However, since that time, I would imagine that you haven’t thought much more about it. It is our jobs to represent your interests and desires, and with 10 representatives, we have the power to address issues important to the freshman class. We are writing this letter to you to try to keep you informed about the issues that we as a group feel are most important to our class.

The first issue we have been working on is dining. The freshmen are in the unique position of having a meal plan that requires we use the campus dining halls. I’m sure you have heard discussion of the dining contract coming up for renewal at the end of this year, and also that MoCon will be replaced by the new University Center in 2007. The dining committee has been working diligently to ensure an excellent quality of dining at Wesleyan in the future. However we would also like to see some immediate improvements in dining, and would appreciate your input.

The second area where freshmen have a special interest is in the upcoming Foss Hill renovations. As freshmen, we are the only current students for whom living on Foss Hill next year is likely. Under the current plan, the main goals of the renovation will be fire safety and an installation of card access. There will also be some cosmetic and functional renovations over the summer. We have been working hard to make sure that these renovations achieve the goals of the University without significantly changing the personality that makes the Foss Hill dorms so popular. Physical Plant and ResLife are very receptive to student suggestions, so make your ideas heard.

As your representatives it is important that you contact us with major issues, complaints, or concerns that you feel need to be considered by the WSA. While we cannot solve every problem, we can serve as an excellent resource. Each of us serves on a committee that helps oversee some aspect of the University, whether it be academics, ITS, residential life, dining, or any other area. We each have access to information and contacts that you might find helpful. If you have any questions regarding starting clubs, communicating with the administration, or addressing a concern on campus, please contact us at wsafrosh@gmail.com or visit the WSA’s website, www.wesleyan.edu/wsa.

Sincerely,

Your freshman class representatives,

Benedict Bernstein
Zach Blau
Jason Harris
Nicole Ippoliti
Katie Kalafus
Max Ornstein
Nathan Ratner
