Playing Saturday in New London, the Cardinals recorded their second consecutive 3-2 victory. With this win the Wesleyan squad remained undefeated on the road and improved its overall record to 4-2, 2-2 in NESCAC play.
The Cardinal’s characteristically aggressive style of play won them the early lead at just 2:30 when Molly Adams ’08 scored off of her own rebound. It was Adams’s team-leading fifth goal of the season.
While the Camel’s Katie Williams managed to knot the score nine minutes later, the Wesleyan offense continued to apply steady pressure on the Conn backfield and outshot the Camels 13-5 during the first half alone. Despite their superior effort, however, the Cardinals would not connect again during the first period and the score remained deadlocked at 1-1 going into halftime.
Wesleyan once more came out firing and gained a 2-1 lead 6:30 into the second half when Amanda Nickels ’08 scored on an assist from Cortney Tetrault ’07. Tetrault would go on to record two assist credits for the game.
With just over ten minutes left to play the Camels answered back, evening out the score at 2-2. Conn’s Jennie Roe found the back of the net to tie the game for the second time.
The Cardinal attack proved too much for the Camels, however, as Julia Perciasepe ’07 connected on the game-winner with just over four minutes remaining.
Saturday’s effort was a well-rounded one, as both the defense and offense outplayed their Conn counterparts. Upon the game’s conclusion the Cardinals had outshot the Camels by a margin of 20-9, and goalkeeper Catie Kelly ’07 managed seven saves.
Wesleyan will take to the field next against NESCAC opponent Colby, whom the Cardinals trounced last season by a score of 4-0. The Cardinals will look to repeat that performance when they host the Mules on Saturday.
