The men’s squash team won two out of three matches at Stanford University during its winter break trip to California, both in convincing fashion. After opening with a 7-2 loss to the hosts, the Cardinals rebounded to sweep Drexel University and take an 8-1 victory over Connecticut College.
Against Stanford, only No. 2 Matt Candal ’11 (3-1) and No. 9 Shivan Bhavnani ’13 (3-2) won their matches. Wesleyan obliterated Drexel the next day, however, as all nine Cardinals won their matches by 3-0 scores. The Cardinals enjoyed similar success against Connecticut College, as Candal, Dale Kobrin ’11 (No. 3), and Brewster Lee ’13 (No. 5) swept their matches.
Wesleyan returned home to take on Hobart College and Colby College in the Wesleyan/Yale Round Robin. The Cardinals dropped a 5-4 heartbreaker to Hobart on Jan. 15, with Robert Broadfoot ’10 (No. 1, 3-0), Candal (3-1), Kobrin (3-2), and Luke Wherry ’13 (No. 6, 3-2) winning their matches. The Cardinals fell to Colby 6-3 the next day.
The Cardinals opened their three-match weekend in the Smith/Mount Holyoke/Amherst Round Robin with a pair of 9-0 losses to St. Lawrence University and Franklin & Marshall College. Wesleyan suffered a 5-4 loss to Hamilton on Sunday to conclude play.
The Cardinals will head to Williams for the Little Three championship this weekend, taking on Amherst at 11 a.m. Saturday before taking on the host Ephs at 1 p.m.
