Nate Fowles ’10, Men’s Squash

Team captain Fowles amassed the third-best record among non-seniors in the 2008-09 season, going 8-10, including a 4-1 record at the number-four spot. Fowles also saw action at the fifth and sixth spots last season. Over his first three years in Middletown, Fowles has played in 58 of a possible 63 matches, including all 20 during 2006-07, when he amassed a 9-11 overall record between the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth spots.

Five of Fowles’ eight wins in 2008-09 were by 3-0 scores, including his first two matches at No. 4 (against M.I.T. and Penn State). He also rolled to a 3-0 victory in the Cardinals’ first consolation match of the NESCAC tournament, a 5-4 victory over Connecticut College. Fowles had a 3-1 win at No. 4 as the Cardinals rolled to a 7-2 win over the University of Virginia at the National Team Tournament last February. In addition to his 4-1 mark at No. 4, Fowles went 4-4 from the fifth spot, winning his final three matches at that position (two by scores of 3-0).

This winter, the Cardinals will look to improve on their 7-15 record from last season, which included a sixth-place finish in the “D” division (30th nationally) at the National Team Tournament. Wesleyan begins its season on Nov. 21 against Bates in the Boston Round Robin.
