In the past week, the Wesleyan women’s tennis team played just one match against NESCAC opponent Colby, after their match against Babson was rained out this past Tuesday. The Lady Cardinals triumphed over the Mules from Maine last Saturday 5-4.
After claiming two out of the three doubles matches to take an early lead against Colby, the top of the ladder would lead the Cardinal charge as Genevieve Aniello ’13, Sarah Miller ’12, and Grace Smith ’14, would win each of their matches in straight sets at the number one, two, and three spots, respectively. The lower half of the ladder wouldn’t fair as well with Kiley Robbins ’14 retiring in her match at the fourth spot and captain Linda McDougal ’11 losing in two sets at the fifth spot. Playing at number six, Nicki Softness ’14 took her opponent to three sets in one of the closest matches of the year. She would play the only three set match of the day, falling in a tiebreaker. The Lady Cards hope to extend their winning streak against another NESCAC opponent, Hamilton College, this Sunday at home at 1 p.m. The Continentals have played just one match within the NESCAC this season, losing 9-0 to Middlebury.
