A Wespeak From the Ice Cream Man: Ice Cream Man Reveres Class of 2000

I absolutely MUST rant and rave about my four years of experience with the class of 2000. In that time so many of you have thanked me for being part of your experience at Wesleyan. How ironic. It is you who have given so much to me. How can I begin to thank you for being so outgoing, so generous with the most incredible stories of your lives. I’ve been treated to four years of hearty laughter. I’ve been positively honored to be introduced to your families and friends from all over the world. How I’ll miss you when you leave. How happy I’ll be to see you again when you visit. How different this place will be without you. Thanks for coming to mine. How I love remembering the many times my parties were visited by the police and how undaunted you all were in the face of it. Remember the second party when the Mobius Band struck a deal with the cops to play another 10 minutes? I’ll never forget the third party and the superhuman effort everyone made when the police made us move it inside. Within 15 minutes a large room was expertly cleared of its delicate antiques, the Mobius men tore down and set back up again to provide another hour of astounding music. The photographs and tape of that last set are among my most prized possessions. Thank you Peter Sax, Ben Sterling and Noam Schatz for providing most of the soundtrack to my life in these last four years with your most amazing musical inventions. At the risk of sounding sappy and sycophantic, I am so impressed with the range of your mastery. How generous you’ve been to everyone with your talent.

I’m forever indebted to Eric Ducker for initiating the protest and petition drive when I was evicted from Zonker Harris Day two years ago. I would like to think that, thanks to Eric’s efforts and diligence, which garnered over 800 signatures, I was able to reach an agreement with the Administration which allows me to go where I’m invited, as long as Public Safety knows in advance. Thanks again to everyone who came to my wedding in the Chapel a couple of years ago. I know for a fact that most of you are from the class of 2000, as are most of the contributors to the “Send Aaron Hunter James to Wesleyan Fund.” Thanks to your generosity, my three-year-old son is over $2,000 closer to attending here. As I’m so fond of saying, he’ll be my revenge on Public Safety. Heh heh, just kidding, Chief.

There are so many luminaries among you whom I’ve had the pleasure and privilege to grow closer to over these four years. Thank you Liz Darlington for your voice, your photogeneity at several right moments, your pleasant company and your beverage dispensing skill. Thank you Alex Kennedy, who will always be my guru. Thank you Scott Mayerowitz for seeing toit that I’m where I’m supposed to be on so many occasions. You’ve really taken good care of me, my friend. I have a list of wonderful people as long as my future who I’ll be proud to know as friends. I could go on and on. I wish all of you great success and with your bountiful gifts, there’s no way it can escape you. I wish you all the happiness you’ve bestowed upon me. Class of 2000, I celebrate you! Thank you for enriching my life.
