Student hit by car

Early Wednesday morning, Janice “Faith” Serrano ’07 was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck while she was crossing the street at the intersection of Church St. and Hotchkiss St. early Wednesday morning. Dean of the College Maria Cruz-Saco detailed the incident in a campus wide e-mail.

“[Serrano] was transported via ambulance to Middlesex Hospital and subsequently to Hartford Hospital,” Cruz-Saco wrote. “Dean Lisa Gates, Teresa Cann, coordinator of international student services, and several of Faith’s friends have returned from the hospital with news that she sustained relatively minor injuries.”

Serrano sustained injuries to her head, clavicle, and legs. According to a friend and housemate, she originally had trouble walking, but her condition had improved by Thursday night. She is expected to be back on campus today.

According to the Middletown Press, the driver of the truck was identified as Sebastian Pitruzzello, 46, of Middletown, and there is an ongoing investigation.

Serrano is the second student to be hit by a car on Church St. this year. In the fall, Rachael Soriano ’06 sustained more serious injuries after being struck by a car on Church St. near Davenport Campus Center.
