News Brief: Public Safety begins overnight parking ban

In anticipation of winter snowstorms, Public Safety has instituted an overnight parking ban for student cars on Lawn Avenue, a section of Pine Street, and Mount Vernon Street. According to Director of Public Safety David Meyer, Public Safety officers will begin ticketing cars that are parked between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. on these roads.

“We’re getting into the snow period so that’s why we have the problem,” Meyer said. “If vehicles are off the road, it’s easier to plow.”

He said students should begin parking their cars overnight in student lots.

Additionally, in the event of a snowstorm, Middletown will institute a parking ban for city streets. If cars are left parked on city streets, the city may ticket or tow them. Public Safety will e-mail students in case of inclement weather, but Meyer wants students to be aware before it happens.

“I just want people to plan ahead early,” he said.
