The Grades Are In

At the end of each semester, The Argus Editorial Board publishes a report card evaluating the progress of various institutions on campus. Here are our grades for the fall 2009 semester, based on initiatives and future projects. Hopefully these grades will encourage these institutions to improve in the next semester.

Environment: A-
Not only will the student body vote for a Green Fee next week, but the administration recently approved of the X-Prize. The X-Prize will allow students to submit energy conservation projects to the administration, who will pick one to implement. In addition, the innovative College of the Environment was announced this year. However, the success of many of the proposed sustainability initiatives are contingent on whether Roth fulfills promises he has made, including the President’s Climate Commitment.

Transportation: B-
Even though Zip Cars have arrived on campus, there have been many problems with The Ride this semester which have contributed to recent safety issues on campus. However, we are hopeful that The Ride will improve with new initiatives to revise the route.

Financial Aid: A-
We are glad that, despite Wesleyan’s financial troubles, the University has made an effort to maintain Wesleyan’s need blind status.

Website D+
The new questions in the Admissions section of the new University website fail to accurately portray Wesleyan students. At least they finally put the library link on the front page.

Public Safety: B
They have continued to ensure students’ safety, bring students to the hospital, and provide a buffer between us and Middletown Police. However, they have not introduced any new safety initiatives this year.

Fire Safety: C
FireSafety has continued to excessively fine students for minor infractions.

WSA: A-
They have fought to preserve financial aid, prioritized budget cuts, and organized shuttles for breaks, proving that they are responding well to student concerns.

Dining: A+
We are the most vegan friendly campus this year!

ResLife: B+
They have continued to do a decent job this semester, with few student complaints, but they haven’t introduced new initiatives.

Michael Roth: A-
He has continued to actively fundraise to bolster our endowment, and, of course, he is even tanner and his teeth even whiter than last year!

Wesleyan is no longer need-blind for transfers. What are you talking about?

from what i know, the term for wesleyan’s applicants regarding tuition now is actually “need-aware” since they can’t guarantee that they’re need-blind.
this is what i was told on my interview i think, but i may be wrong, however.
