Are you serious, Argus online website!?? I just spent 45 minutes writing a response to Dan Grassian’s Wespeak that was well written and justified my claims!!! When I pressed submit it said I didn’t give my phone number and told me to go back at which point it was all deleted. Now I will just have to blurt this out.
Dan Grassian, you are complaining about not enough services that cater to the minority of people on campus. And while I do not necessarily disagree that services like more vegetarian/vegan options and more gender-neutral bathrooms should exist on campus, you are also complaining about the rising cost of attending Wesleyan. The more you demand the more expensive this school gets!!! Get it? And not only that, although I am impartial and sometimes favor these additional services, it is not fair to those on campus who do conform to the norms of society because they benefit from economies of scale. Don’t make two contradictory demands in the future.
An example of my point: if the school were more religiously fervent, there would be a separate synagogue, Protestant church, Catholic church, and mosque, in addition to perhaps a Shinto temple, Baha’i temple, and a temple for those Animalists on campus. Having these separate services would make this school a lot more diverse, but a lot more freaking expensive. At a school with a small population, the benefits of economies of scale are already low, and additionally providing for more diverse services reduces those benefits further.
