Campus’ Progress represents a potential goldmine for student activism. We urge all students to consider the funding it can provide as inspiration enough to get out there and do something.
Already, Campus Progress has allowed several major speakers to come to campus, and we hope more events are to come. We believe that dialogue and debate are positive. Bringing and disseminating new ideas and initiatives to campus can only benefit the University and the greater community. Ideally, we will all use this resource to its full extent.
While the WSA has functioned adequately distributing funds to student groups in the past, imagine the flexibility and cooperation allowed a group securing its financing directly from Washington instead of from the limited funds distributed by the SBC and an administration currently engaged in “Project $AVE.” No longer should small groups struggle against the constraints of a system lacking enough funding resources. If an adequate cogency of ideas and level organization is achieved, Campus Progress promises to be an important last step in attaining a progressive group’s goals. This also leaves more money in the student budget for other groups on campus, whether they are liberal, conservative, or neutral.
Obviously, University students are politically and socially conscious and many partake in progressive or activist groups in different capacities. The services of Campus Progress should be noted and seized upon by those involved in such groups. Those who are not taking advantage of Campus Progress, what are you waiting for?
We applaud the work of Campus Progress and appreciate the useful opportunity it has allowed fellow students. Now the job passes to the rest of us. Let’s take advantage of an accessible resource afforded to us.
