WSA makes unfair decision

Dear Wesleyan Community,

I am writing to you in seek of support. As you may already know, elections for the Student Budget Committee are currently happening and unfortunately, my name is not on the ballot. My petition and Argus statement were due at exactly 12:00 p.m. last Friday afternoon at the WSA office located on 190 High St. Having scheduled a meeting with a professor from 11:00 to 11:50 a.m. at Judd Hall, I knew I had an ample amount of time to deliver the required documents, given the close proximity of Judd Hall to the WSA office. Unfortunately, my meeting with the professor extended longer than was originally mentioned and as a result, I delivered my SBC petition and statement approximately fifteen minutes late. Consequently, the WSA will not allow my name or statement to appear on the election site or in the Argus.

Therefore, it is really up to me to let students know that I am actually running and this email is just one of the ways for which I am doing exactly that.

Although the Elections Committee agreed that my situation was not in my control (given that I would not interrupt any professor in the middle of his/her/hir’s lecture to go to the WSA office), they still proceeded with the aforementioned decision, thereby inhibiting my chances of becoming reelected to the SBC. I think that this is unfair and would really appreciate your support in this situation.

This semester I have been working really hard with the committee to revamp our old-fashioned system of allocations by assisting with the creation of an online system where each group on campus can check their financial status thereby eliminating some of the hassle with paper work and making it easier for us all to inquire about the groups that we dedicate our time and energies to. I have also dedicated myself to listening to student criticism on the SBC and using that to reform the policies and the SBC’s decision-making process so as to ensure that this process is objective and transparent to all students.

If you agree with my efforts and would like to see me continue serving the student body, I would encourage you to vote for me as a write-in candidate. The voting instructions are as follows:

1. Visit the WSA elections website: http://condor.wesleyan.edu:4000/wsavoting/ and login.

2. Click on the link that reads: “Winter 2005 Student Budget Committee (SBC) Election

3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and write my name in as follows: Manny Vega

Note: Your vote will not count if my name is spelled differently.

4. Cast Ballot!

Once again, I would like to thank you for your time and support in advance and hope that I can count on your vote during the elections!
