Names to get to know on campus: Be sure to say hi!

1. Michael Roth
This year, Roth ’78 became the University’s 16th president, replacing Doug Bennet ’59. Roth, who lived in Alpha Delt as a student, comes to the University from California College of the Arts, where he served as president. He has expressed hopes of being accessible to students, so don’t be afraid to shake his hand and chat with the new prez.

2. Matt Ball ’08 and Emily Malkin ’08
This duo presides over the Wesleyan Student Assembly (WSA), with Ball serving as president and Malkin as vice president. Among other things, the WSA allocates money to student groups and oversees the Student Judicial Board (SJB), which enforces standards of academic and non-academic conduct on campus.

3. Dean Daniel Teraguchi
Teraguchi serves as Dean for Diversity and Academic Advancement, working to engage the University community in discourse on campus climate issues. Additionally, the Office for Diversity and Academic Advancement is involved in the planning of academic and international aspects of new student orientation.

4. Mike Whaley
Dean of Student Services Whaley will also act as interim dean of the college, replacing Maria Cruz-Saco. Last year, Cruz-Saco worked with Teraguchi to create an online campus climate log that tracked hate incidents on campus. Whaley’s office is in North College, where he oversees the work of the other Deans.

5. Jennifer Garratt Lawton
As director of financial aid, Lawton oversees a staff of seven who work to make the University financially accessible to students. Located in North College, the Office of Financial Aid also coordinates the work-study program.

6. Fran Koerting
Director of Residential Life (Reslife), Koerting, along with eight other staff members, coordinates student housing. The Office of Residential Life oversees the General Room Selection (GRS) lottery, as well as the Program Housing application process.

7. P. Davis Smith
Smith is the Medical Director of Davison Health Center, the ornate brown Victorian next to Malcolm X House. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are okay, as well—you may just have to wait before seeing one of the nurses. Davison also includes the Office of Behavioral Health, and supports WesWELL, a student group focused on health education.

8. Phil Dean
Dean is one of the staff that oversees the student-run Information Technology Services (ITS), which is located on the first floor of Exley. ITS can assist with almost any computer problem, hooking your computer to the Wesleyan network.

9. David A. Meyers
Director of Public Safety (PSafe), Meyers, as well as his staff of officers, patrols the campus on a 24-hour basis to ensure student security. All PSafe officers are trained in CPR and First Aid, but if you recognize this face at a party you should probably run for your own (P)safety.

10. Sarah Lazare
Lazare is the Associate Dean of Academic Advancement and heads the Student Academic Resource Network (SARN). Only in its second year, SARN now provides new students with peer advising.
