Over two weeks of playing on the turf fields of Trinity, the field hockey team has dominated the competition, winning three out of four games against strong teams from all over New England. With an overall record of 8-3, the team looks strong heading into the upcoming NESCAC tournament.
On Tuesday, Oct. 11, the team defeated Eastern Connecticut State University in Hartford 2-1. Despite the harsh weather that plagued the Northeast, the team played well in a close contest with Courtney Tetrault ’07 scoring both goals for the Cardinals.
On Friday, Oct. 14, the team played Wellesley College once again in Hartford. In overtime, the team was able to overcome Wellesley thanks to Molly Adams’ ’07 second game winning overtime goal of the season off a penalty corner. Julia Perciasepe ’07 and Amanda Nickels ’08 also provided scored for the Cardinals in the match.
Coming off a five-win streak, the Cardinals headed into their second straight day with a game, facing off against Bates on Saturday. Bates’ Emily Chandler lit up the scoring, including a game winner in overtime. Goalie Caitlin Kelly ’07 made eight saves and Adams added a goal, but the Bobcats hung on to defeat the Cardinals 2-1.
Despite the loss, the Cardinals bounced back, quickly defeating Mount Holyoke on Wednesday, on the familiar grass of Anderson Field. Adrienne Shea ’08 led the scoring for the Cardinals with two goals, but Adams once again provided the game winner, netting her fourth game-winning and ninth goal of the year.
With a 3-3, record in the NESCAC this year, the team heads to Amherst on Saturday to take on their Little Three rival, in a pivotal game that could determine NESCAC playoff positions.
