At Trinity College, a high-ranking Student Government Association (SGA) official has been censured after attending a meeting under the influence of alcohol. The individual’s status as an SGA member remains uncertain, pending a vote on whether or not it would be prudent for the officer to continue working with the SGA.
The performing artist in Amherst College‘s annual Spring Concert will be selected by instant run-off in a campus-wide vote this year, following changes to the selection process. In both the new and the old voting system, the Amherst College Program Board developed a preliminary list of artists. However, the old system required multiple rounds of voting, with only one artist being eliminated in each round.
A professor was dismissed by Williams College after pleading guilty to defrauding banks, the federal government and credit companies out of $800,000 over the past ten years. The College, which runs background checks applicants on potential faculty members, is investigating its hiring policies to determine how the former professor was able to hide his criminal history.
As part of Bowdoin College‘s annual Date Week, members of the Alliance of Sexual Assault Prevention (ASAP) have begun a personal ads service, and have so far received 23 submissions. Date Week events include “Dinner Date with Eight”, in which students dine with seven strangers with matching responses on a personality quiz, and “Screw Your Roommate”, in which students are paired with a blind date.
Students at Middlebury College face a condensed exam period this year, with finals occurring between Dec. 8th and Dec. 12; a reduction from the nine-day period of previous years. According to Middlebury Professor of Psychology Barbara Hofer, the shortened exam period came in response to a new requirement that professors submit grades by the end of the December, rather than as a result of any financial considerations.
