Julia Frieze ’12, Women’s Indoor Track

Frieze broke onto the scene last winter with a pair of first-place finishes in the 400-meter dash and 4×400-meter relay in the opening meet of the indoor season and did not look back. At the first four meets of the season, Frieze did not finish lower than fourth place in any event and amassed five top-two finishes, including her pair of first-place performances in the inaugural winter meet.

Frieze was a member of the Cardinals’ 4×400-meter relay team in five of the eight meets of 2008-09, helping to lead Wesleyan to a finish of eighth place or better in all five meets. Frieze also showcased her strength in the individual events with a handful of top finishes. She took second in the 400m in the Wesleyan Invitational II (1:01.94) and fourth in the event (1:03.38) in the Cardinal Invitational I a week later. Frieze helped lead Wesleyan to a fourth-place finish (out of 10 teams) in the Tufts Invitational in January, as she placed second in the 600-meter run (1:39.6) and helped lead Wesleyan to fourth-place finishes in both the 4×200- and 4×400-meter relays. She concluded her winter action with a 13th-place finish in the 400m with a time of 1:00.23, less than a second behind the eighth-place runner.

Frieze will look to continue to make her mark on the Cardinal track program this winter season, which kicks off with the Wesleyan Invitational I on Dec. 5.
