Top Male Athlete: Tommie Lark ’11, Men’s Track and Field

Since breaking onto the scene as a freshman with an indoor-record triple jump of 46-0, Tommie Lark ’11 has established himself as one of the top jumpers in the NESCAC. Earlier this season, Lark broke the triple jump record in two consecutive meets to reclaim the mantle from Sam Grover ’08. Lark has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with his triple-jump distances and has an opportunity to add to his resume this weekend at the annual ECAC meet. His record jump of 47-1 3/4 is the seventh-best performance in Division III this season.

In addition to the triple jump, Lark has also excelled in the long jump. In his two years at Wesleyan, Lark has placed first in the long jump seven times, including four top finishes so far this season, and recorded seven other top-eight finishes in the event. He has also brought home three first-place finishes in the triple jump—bringing his total in the jumping events to ten—and seven additional top-eight finishes. He was Wesleyan’s lone representative in the New England Open Championships over the weekend, placing eighth in both the triple jump and long jump in a field loaded with Division I jumpers. Look for Lark to improve on his already stellar legacy the next two weekends at the biggest meets of the year.
