Write more creatively

As a senior English major, the complaint that the department does not offer enough creative writing courses, and that these courses are often nearly a familiar refrain for me. I could not agree more: it took me nearly two years to enroll in one myself. At the same time, I think it falls upon us as student writers to create the community that we have perennially clamored after, to “create the taste by which our work is to be enjoyed,” as Wordsworth put it.

To that end, here are some opportunities to get involved in Wesleyan writing in the very near future: every Friday at 4:30 a poetry circle meets in the chapel’s meditation room, as an informal forum for the discussion of specific works or the task of writing as a whole.

Ostranenie’s fall magazine has gone to print and will be hitting campus within the next week.

The Hangman’s Lime, Wesleyan’s poetry litmag, has extended its submissions deadline to Feb. 5th, the last day of drop/add. Submissions may be sent to hangsmans_lime@yahoo.com

Finally, the Lime is also celebrating its 15th year and is celebrating with a student reading on Wed. the 12th at 8:30 in the Zelnick Pavilion. Anyone who wishes to read should email lnorton@wes. Anyone interested in experiencing the depth and breadth of student work at Wes ought to come along.
