Are we better off now than we were before? This seems to be an inescapable question in recent years. The new mall on campus with suggestively cruciform entryways, has for better or worse shifted the flow of campus. Having eaten there three times, I can safely say that I have no idea what is going on, and that the improved quality we were expecting has been soiled by congestion and some really questionable improved quality. Sloppy joe style seitan is an actual label of what we are supposed to regard as a specialty item. I just don’t really get it. Sure the table by the exit full of free silverware and Beirut cups is a nice touch, but how are we supposed to eat food?
Another question, why does everyone working there look so furious? Apparently the same jolly staff that we came to love last year has been reemployed with a company that refuses full-time benefits by cutting hours just below the requirement to get those benefits. Sweet, we went from a company serving inmates to a company trying to be Walmart. The fundamental problem seems to be space, because the spiral of activity in the main room is way too unforgiving. I mean a hefty amount of decisions were clearly made to make this possible. So…why does the door open the wrong way when you’re trying to carry a tray? And why does something trying to replace both the campus center and MoCon have inferior girth to both its predecessors?
Don’t get me wrong, the pizza is delicious. The canola oil infused stir-fry on the other hand is, again, questionable. But the pizza, I mean that stuff is good. It’s even so good you can grab two pieces at lunch and wait in a random line just long enough to finish both pieces and get out of that place no harm done. Then take your points elsewhere and raid shelves in Weshop like its Y2K. So until someone gets it together and buys one of those Dominos heat wave bags and sells grilled cheese or other simple, delicious bread/cheese items elsewhere on campus, I guess this is how to keep it real at the Yooz.
