I enjoy my apple pie “A la Mode”

Ed Klein frequently writes some of the most amusing articles in the Argus, totally overshadowing the Ampersand in my opinion. His piece “A la Mode” following Valentines Day absolutely had me, and I’m sure most other students at the campus, chuckling at the tongue-in-cheek potshots at fashion at Wesleyan. Yes, I know some of you may have been taken aback by his tearing your fashion sense a new one, but you must have realized from the first paragraph, the first sentence, that all of it was a joke, and went on your merry way.

Not so for Stephanie Quainoo or Deirdre Salsich. They seem to have lost their sense of humor or sarcasm radar or whatever you want to call it. Ed never makes an assumption about anyone’s financial situation in any serious context. The part about the loafers is just completely out there shedding light on how ridiculous concerns with fashion really are. Does Ed really want anyone to go buy $300 Italian loafers? No. Does he really think that people on financial aid have cash to throw around? No. It’s all sarcasm from a perspective to make said perspective look ludicrous. Do you watch the Colbert report and take his character seriously in the context that one would take Bill O’Reilly? (Whether or not a person should take Bill O’Reilly seriously is a whole different matter).

That being said I’ll continue to dress in my sweatshirts, t-shirt, jeans, beat up $30 sneakers that I bought in highschool and refuse to get a haircut.
