Guess you didn’t like it, Argus Arts

Dear Argus,

We’ve had a long and loving relationship, which makes this all the more difficult to say, but there are things we need to talk about.

It’s over between us.

Lately, we’ve felt distanced from you, maybe even forgotten. We see you hang out with other people and write about them, and we understand that you get really excited when you meet awesome new friends like Compagnie TcheTche or Suzan Lori-Parks. They’re great. And we realize that you need time for your other friends. But lately, you’ve been unavailable. For instance, you forgot our three-month anniversary and you failed to recognize our song when it came on the radio. You didn’t even notice when we performed in ‘As You Like It’.

How long have we been together argus?

A long time. But we guess that doesn’t warrant a review of our efforts. It’s fine.

It will take time to heal the wounds, but they will heal.

Don’t try to call.

We don’t want to talk to you right now. We need some time to heal in solitude.

In truth, it’s not that big of a deal. We didn’t really need you to print a synopsis of the play. We pretty much memorized it. But it would have meant a lot to us.

You missed this opportunity to show how much we meant to you and now it’s too late to change anything. Emily is going abroad next semester, and Mark is moving on to bigger and better things.

So it was fun while it lasted, argus. You may have taken away our dignity and stomped on our hearts, but you will never take away the academic credit we got for being in this show.

We’ll always look back and think fondly of you,

Emily Vallillo
