I’ve heard many complaints about the quality of the Argus’ reporting. I’ve generally defended the Argus though perhaps given the paper too much the benefit of the doubt. In my WSA work I have firsthand knowledge of much of what is covered in the Argus so can quite readily judge for myself the quality of the reporting and have generally been satisfactory.
But I must question your most recent decision to publish the fall sports awards when the fall season has not finished for all the fall sports teams, i.e. the XC [cross-country] teams. The men’s XC team is going to nationals. The men’s soccer team undoubtedly had a great season. The mens xc team is having a good/great season. On the women’s side, Ellen Davis, the winner of the regional race is competing for a national title tomorrow, Saturday. She received an “honorable mention”, when again she is still in season and capable of further excellence and perhaps “best female athlete.”
Argus staff, your preemptive publication of these fall awards specifically doesn’t bother me much, but what I am concerned about is the quality of your articles in general, which I take at face value and believe (to a point). Please continue being a resource to this campus in which we can read and trust for the most part.
Love,
Anda
