After 34 years of service, Deputy Police Chief Philip Pessina spent his last day with the Middletown Police Department on Friday, Nov. 3. The common council honored Pessina for such services to Middletown as drug-prevention programs in city schools, personal safety classes for children living in city housing projects, and collaboration with activists in the North End to counter such problems as street crime and drug use.
As reported in the Hartford Courant, Pessina has accepted an offer from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven to become deputy chief of the campus police department. He expects to begin his new position early in December.
“Leaving is bittersweet, but I’m excited about this next chapter,” Pessina said to the Courant. “I felt I always had a positive relationship with Wesleyan, and I’m looking [forward] to take some of [the] things we did here to Southern.”
The Psi Upsilon fraternity at Wesleyan honored Pessina with a plaque that recognizes his work on relations between the University and Middletown.
