In a lecture entitled “Scratches, Speckling, and Crooked Lettering: Rembrandt’s Messy Prints,” Dr. Nadine M. Orenstein discussed the lesser known elements of the career of one of history’s most recognized and studied artists. Orenstein, the curator in the Department of Drawings and Prints at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, used selected Rembrandt works to point out the nuanced, highly personal style of the artist she called “one of the great printmakers in the history of art.”
Orenstien’s lecture was organized in conjunction with the exhibition “Multiple Fascinations: Dutch and Flemish Prints from Bruegel to Rembrandt” at the Davidson Art Center through Dec. 10th.
