Microbocides education event!

What? Another Wespeak about microbicides?

Yes. But trust us; you will be happy you read it. And besides, we won’t stop until each and every one of you is familiar with microbicides. So it’s really not worth complaining about. But then, why wouldn’t you want to read about a technology that has the potential to massively reduce the rate of HIV infection across the world? Microbicides open the door to new hope in the face of the current AIDS pandemic, and we want you to be familiar with them.

What are they, you ask? Why, microbicides are tasteless, odorless “wonder-gels,” (currently in stage 3 clinical trials), that can be used INSTEAD of a condom to protect against HIV and other sexually transmitted infections! Because they are applied topically to the vagina, microbicides are the only HIV prevention method that puts control into women’s hands. Vagina, you say? Yes. Vaginal microbicides are farthest along in research (owing to the similarity in application to spermicides). But don’t worry; rectal microbicides are on their way. In addition, we should point out that microbicides can be, but don’t have to be contraceptive in function. Everyone loves options.

Want to learn more?

This MONDAY, OCTOBER 23, Laurie Sylla, Connecticut’s leading expert on microbicides, will be giving a talk on their benefits, their current status, and the science behind them. It will be in Pac 004, at 7PM. And there will be free Thai food.

Once again: Laurie Sylla, Oct. 23 (Monday), 7PM, PAC004, free food.
