We would like to publicly extend our gratitude to all of the volunteers who helped make this year’s Holocaust memorial service such a memorable event. At the service, numerous students lent their talents and time, enriching the ceremony with various readings, songs, prayers, and lighting of remembrance candles.
Worldwide, it has become a custom to publicly recite names of Holocaust victims for the entire 24-hour duration of the day of remembrance. This practice effectively serves to personalize the tragedy by putting emphasis on the millions of individuals who perished, and not solely on the cold, intangibility embodied in the term “The Six Million.” Thanks to the extraordinary amount of volunteers, including both students and faculty, we were able to bring this meaningful custom to Wesleyan.
Great work everyone!
