Film Serious: How ’bout that film series?!

Hello. Back again after three weeks on the bench with the straight up talky talk on the darling films we are showing this week. I am thesis delirious, as many others are, so I will not take up too much of your time.

FRIDAY (4/7). THE SHINING.
8 p.m. GOLDSMITH FAMILY CINEMA.

MY FAVORITE FILM OF ALL TIME. IN 35mm!!!! I WILL POUR ELEVATORS OF BLOOD ON EVERYBODY WHO DOES NOT COME!

SATURDAY (4/8). THE LADY EVE. 8 p.m. FREE. GFC.

SCREWBALL COMEDY IS THE FUNNIEST! PRESTON STURGES IS THE DIRECTOR-IEST! HENRY FONDA (the dude with all the relatives)! AND BARBARA STANWYCK (the broad with the great gams in “Double Indemnity)! I’M LOVIN’ IT!

MIDNIGHT SATURDAY (4/8). PINK FLAMINGOS. 12 a.m. GFC.

”Pink Flamingos“ is the midnight movie that started it all (”Rocky Horror,“ eat my shorts). As fellow Argus film columnist Matt Connolly once wrote, ”the lascivious thrill of a midnight showing cannot be denied.“ Sure. I’ll buy that.

”Pink Flamingos“ has something for everybody: a 300-pound transvestite eating dog poop, a threesome with a chicken, gratuitous violence, mother on son action, and THE FILTHIEST PEOPLE ALIVE. See what the gem of trash sinema can do for you.

WEDNESDAY (4/12). PARINEETA. 8 p.m. GFC.

Who better to pump up our latest delightful Bollywood confection than Wesleyan’s own Indian sweetheart Arijit Sen? It also helps that he is related to many of the people involved in making the film. With the Wesleyan Film Series, we like to keep in the family. In the words of Ari:
”Following the Hollywood trend of remaking classic films, debutante director Pradeep Sarkar delves into the treasure trove of old Bollywood films and comes up with a humdinger. Fantastic art direction and cinematography, subtle acting (until the very end, but who cares—its Bollywood, you know how it ends) and song sequences that defy logic make up possibly the best film remake in many a year. Starring my uncle as hero, my grandma’s acting buddy as villain and debutante Vidya Balan as a reminder as to why you all love Indian women. Highly recommended for singing along and dancing in the aisles (well not really, but you could try). Either way you’ll love it. Everyone who’s finished their thesis a day earl—celebrate your goodness by watching the best Indian cinema since “Lagaan.” You gotta see it. It’s going to be good. If you don’t, India has nukes. We’ll use ’em. ‘Nuff said.

THURSDAY (4/13). DEAD MAN. 8 p.m. GFC. FREE.

The only good film Jim Jarmusch ever made (*see Jarmusch rant from October). I got to give it up. The best revisionist western to grace this campus since “Brokeback.”
