Felt the temperature rise under your collar because of what that silly Carp boy said? Here is the definitive statement on Evan Carp: he will never get laid at Wesleyan again.
Luckily, we have chicken soup for your discursive soul this Friday with “Paradise Now,” a humanizing take on suicide bombing that will stimulate healthy discussion on all sides of the political spectrum. We also have “Good Night and Good Luck,” which is anti- zealot fanaticism.
Evan Carp is a film major, so you may see him there. Hope so. He could learn something. Even better: look at the bottom of my column for information for applying to Film Board*. Film Board applications. You can be like me! But more! I don’t even like movies. Have you ever noticed how long they are?! And you can program more films, or movies, that kick ignorance in the butt cheeks, or just plain entertain the butt cheeks.
FRIDAY (3/3). GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK. 8 p.m. GOLDSMITH FAMILY CINEMA.
George Clooney directed and co-starred in this flick about Edward R. Murrow reaming Joseph McCarthy. Who was a big jerk. Edward R. Murrow had that bushy eyebrow thing GOING ON. I used to think that was really cool. But now I understand that it’s more than that. It was a sign of journalistic integrity. Holla at journalistic integrity. It is important to see this event recreated in black and white. Because that is what the world used to look like. If you don’t come see this fine, Best Picture Oscar nominated filmic example of YES!, you will “at long last have no sense of decency.” That was an approximate quotation from the Army-McCarthy hearings. I go to skool.
SATURDAY (3/4). BULLITT. 8 p.m. GFC. FREE.
There have been some famous car chases in cinematic history. “Swordfish,” “Fast and the Furious,” and “Gone in 60 Seconds” immediately come to mind. But “Bullitt” has the best one. It’s badass. It’s tops. Because it has Steve McQueen. Steve McQueen ain’t no queen, he’s a MAN. UNH! YE! That’s right. He drives cars so fast. And hides bodies of shotgun blast victims so he can untangle the thorny details of the crime, so well. Excuse me, I’m gushing.
WEDNESDAY (3/8). PARADISE NOW. 8 p.m. GFC.
Asher Schranz, Film Board member and Upper West Side Jew, was supposed to write a blurb for this. Instead he is somewhere not spending money on something. Grrr. Beyond being a lot more intelligent than Herr Carp, Paradise Now has a lot more going for it. If you see Asher, ask him what. All I know is what I put in my elegant opening paragraph.
