To whomever is at the top of this ridiculous totem pole,
Please get your priorities straight. Instead of badgering ResLife, which in turn badgers my RA, who in turn badgers me (oh, the beauty of bureaucracy) about the hammocks hanging outside of my window on the ground floor of Nic 6 being “hazardous,” why don’t you focus on something immensely more important such as the lack of lighting around Observatory Circle at night? Instead of wasting your precious time worrying that someone is going to “injure”* themselves in one of the hammocks, you really should be concerned about the fact that it is almost impossible to see where you are going (unless there is a full moon), who/what is around you, or what potential obstacles/dangers lie ahead in the darkness on this commonly used path. Numerous complaints have been made about this issue and serious injuries have and will continue to occur until something is done about it. If “injuries” or “hazards” are issues that you actually are extremely concerned about (apparently, as Reslife so eloquently stated recently, the shoes left in our hallways pose a “serious fire safety risk” and make “the chance for germs to spread increases immensely” thereby “creating a potentially injurious, unsafe and unclean environment for yourself and other people”), then there are many other more important matters of safety that you should be dealing with. I will happily take down my harmful hammocks as soon as I have a spare moment (which, in the rush before the Thanksgiving break, should be hard to find), if you will please continue to realize and solve issues such as break-in’s, lighting at night, and other very real dangers. Oh, and stop canceling the “lighting safety tours.”
Thank you,
Elissa Gross ’08
