Leave the frat brothers alone

In response to “Frats don’t add to diversity” it appears as though Mr. Lazarus has missed the point entirely. To clarify, our point was, and still is, that fraternity parties are in no way malicious attempts to degrade members of the community. In response to Mr. Lazarus’s comments about the idea that this debate is “recycled” we would like to outline the fact that just because a debate is ongoing does not mean it is unimportant. Many of the past prominent issues of our time are centered around age-old debates. Our issues may not be “interesting” to Mr. Lazarus but they are pertinent to many people on this campus and are therefore valid. As to the idea that white men should or should not have a “safe space” on campus, let us say this—first we would like to correct Mr. Lazarus in his assumptions that all members of the residential fraternities are straight and white, which they are not and second, we would like to say that all people, human beings, have the right to a safe space. As to the idea that some majors on campus are only for white men, that is not only false but unfounded. Majors are chosen by individual preference. As to the question “are you kidding” we respond, no, we are not kidding in saying that fraternity brothers have rights too and just because they are in the social majority does not mean their voice should be silenced on campus.
