By the time the singles matches were finished, the final result was not in doubt. All that was left between the men’s tennis team and an undefeated fall season were three doubles matches. After easily putting those away to defeat Colby-Sawyer 7-0 in their final dual match of the season, the Cardinals knew they had finished off a season that saw them create great momentum heading into the spring.
For good measure, the Cards put forth their most impressive effort of the fall in the final outing. In defeating Colby-Sawyer 7-0, the Cards won 96 of 117 games.
Captain Max Kates ’06 won at number one singles 6-0, 6-0 to close out the fall season 3-0 in dual matches (3-1 overall).
In the number two spot, Tallen Todorovich ’07 also won in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Todorovich went 4-2 on the season, with one of the losses coming when he stepped up to the number one position against Coast Guard. Todorovich also paired with Kates to earn an 8-3 first doubles victory against Colby on Saturday.
Mike Frank ’08 continued his impressive fall campaign with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at third singles. Frank saw his stock rise this fall, finishing with a 4-0 record with starts at second, third, and fifth singles.
At fourth singles, Paul Gerdes ’09 won 6-4, 6-0. Gerdes had a successful first fall for the Cards, providing stability in the fourth spot. On Saturday, he also won at second doubles with Alejandro Alvarado ’09.
Pauri Pandian ’08 came through with a 6-1, 6-0 victory for the Cards in the fifth singles match, while Max Schenkein ’08 won at sixth singles 6-1, 6-4. Pandian was a versatile player all fall, coming through with victories in both singles and doubles. Pandian and Schenkein paired together to win a doubles match over Coast Guard earlier in the fall.
In the final match of the fall, the freshmen duo of Max Schenkein ’09 and Graham Immerman ’09 picked up an 8-1 third doubles victory.
After cruising through the fall season, the Cards are anxious to return to the courts against their NESCAC rivals in the spring.
