One: It’s official: SFP has sold out. Of olive oil, three cases in less than one week. To quote a Wespeak from Tuesday out of context-C-A-P-I-T-A-L-I-S-M! (If only Wal-Mart would start selling this stuff…) Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible, for your purchase and the firm political (but basically humanitarian) statement it sends. And it was, I hear, great stuff.
If you missed out on the olive oil, or if you would like to order some more, I will take orders for next September. We have to put in the orders in June, as it will take months (for obvious geographical and political reasons) for the next shipment to arrive. Email mbutterfield@wesleyan.edu; order now, pay $12 on arrival.
Two: I won’t have had a chance to talk to the Administration before I write this (I will); however, it is greatly disturbing to me that because of “financial reasons,” Wesleyan has decided to actually cut classes, as was mentioned in Friday, April 23’s Argus. The highest priority of Wesleyan University is it’s educational missio—his is not subject to debate. Why then, should the administration talk about a new campus “master plan,” why have they renovated Clark Hall, why is the Freeman center receiving a huge addition, why have they built unneeded covered walkways between North and South Colleges, why have they built an eyesore of an atrium outside of the ’92 theater, et—otaling hundreds of millions of dollars in cos—hen they cannot provide academic departments with the resources they need, when professors at Wesleyan are not receiving wages comparable to their counterparts at similar institutions?
Members of the Administration, I think an explanation is overdue. I would appreciate if you provided an explanation directly to me or, better yet, sent a statement to the entire campus via email. As of right now, I’m fairly skeptical that this will happen.
