Goldstein’s wespeak adds violence

Dear Argus,

In the April 13, 2004 issue of the Argus you ran an apology for printing a Wespeak that, in accordance with your publication’s policies, should not have been printed. In the letter from the editor, you wrote, “The Argus would like to apologize for it being printed, as it has long been our policy to not run submissions that attack individuals.”

One week later, however, you published a Wespeak by Zach Goldstein, which included vicious personal attacks on President Bennet and his wife. Goldstein calls Midge Bennet a “sex slave” and wonders whether Doug Bennet is “too busy rocking his own cock in his office all day to notice how shitty our campus has gotten”.

Zach Goldstein is entitled to whatever opinion he may have. However, it is the Argus’ obligation to follow through on established policies and not print such personal attacks.

At a time when violence is becoming increasingly prevalent on our campus the Argus’ decision to print such Wespeaks only serves to promote this violent and anger filled atmosphere. In the future, please be more responsible in choosing which Wespeaks find a place in your esteemed publication.
