President Bennet announced today that he is joining President Bush in condemning the pullout of Spanish troops from Iraq by the newly elected Spanish government. The Bush administration has criticized the move, stating that it sends the message that acts of terrorism have the power to influence national politics and encourages the use of such tactics.
Bennet voiced similar concerns, citing growing unrest within the student body. “I mean, if people get it into their heads that they can influence policy through acts of terror, it’ll cause all sorts of chaos,” Bennet said Monday afternoon. “For the record, blowing up the Campus Center will not bring back chalking.”
Sources close to Bennet suggested that the President’s real concern was that a terrorist strike might negatively affect his popularity, hurting his chances in upcoming elections. When reminded that his position does not require him to stand for election, he replied, “Oh, well in that case…we’re building a new Campus Center anyway, right?”
