This past Friday Caricom, the 15-nation Caribbean organization, announced it would not recognize Haiti’s new U.S.-backed interim government because of concerns regarding the departure of former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
This is a victory for those who saw President Aristide’s exit as a U.S.-led coup. On the other hand, for those who saw his removal as a popular revolution against a corrupt regime, it was a setback.
