Louis Gabel ’08, a former baseball standout who had the third-best ERA (4.19) on the team in his senior season, has signed with the Brockton (Mass.) Rox of the independent Canadian-American (Can-Am) league.

Gabel made 44 appearances in his four years in Middletown, including 24 starts, pitching a total of 107 innings. He won a total of six games in his career, second-best among the class of 2008 behind classmate Kit Tholen, who won seven. Three of Gabel’s six wins came against Hamilton, including a pair of complete games. He allowed just seven hits and two unearned runs in a nine-inning complete-game win in 2006 to pick up his first career victory and allowed just six earned runs and 18 hits in 23 career innings against the Continentals. He also helped the Cardinals sweep the season-ending doubleheader against Trinity in 2006, entering in relief and throwing three shutout innings as the Cardinals won in 10 innings.

The six-team Can-Am league also includes the New Jersey Jackals, Quebec Capitales, Sussex (N.J.) Skyhawks, Worcester Tornadoes, and a team from Pittsfield, Mass. The Rox open their 2010 schedule on May 28 with a three-game series against Worcester.
