The women’s ice hockey team traveled to Harrisville, R.I. on Wednesday night to take on Nichols College in the second-ever game between the teams. Nicole Bonneau ’13 made 25 saves to keep the Bison off the board, but Wesleyan was unable to find the back of the net either as the teams battled to a 0-0 draw. Wesleyan came out firing, outshooting the Bison 13-4 in the first period, but was unable to break into the scoring column. The Cards had a key scoring chance in the second period when Jill Reynolds ’12 was awarded a penalty shot 30 seconds after the Cards killed off a 4-on-3 situation, but the Nichols goalie made a pad save on Reynolds’ attempt to keep the game scoreless. The teams combined for 19 shots in the final two periods, but strong goaltending by both sides kept it a 0-0 game.

The shutout was Wesleyan’s first of the season and the first of Bonneau’s career. Wesleyan has not allowed a goal in its two games against Nichols, though the Cards did allow one in a 2007-08 exhibition contest against the Bison.

The Cards return to the ice on Saturday, hosting Sacred Heart at 3 p.m.
